Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by television on December 24th.
